Full Itinerary

Day 1 - Heathrow/Johannesburg
Overnight non-stop South African Airways flight from Heathrow, arriving in Johannesburg the following day.

Day 2 - Johannesburg
Transfer to your hotel (Protea Hotel Wanderers or similar). Rest of the day at leisure.

Day 3 - Pretoria and Mpumalanga
Leave Johannesburg for Pretoria, visit the Voortrekker Monument. Continue to the Premier Diamond Mines. Continue to Mpumalanga. Overnight at the Royal Hotel or similar. (BLD)

Day 4 - The Lowveld and the Kruger National Park
Explore the gold mining village of Pilgrim's Rest, God's Window, and Blyde River Canyon. Continue to Kruger National Park, 2 nights Kruger Rest Camp or similar. (B,D)

Day 5
A full day’s Big Five game viewing in Kruger. Set off before breakfast in open safari vehicles in search of the Big Five. (B)

Day 6 - The Kingdom of Swaziland
Drive to the tiny Kingdom of Swaziland. Visit the Ngwenya Glass Works. Continue to Mbabane. Spend the night in the beautiful Ezulwini Valley. Lugogo Sun or similar. (B, L, D)

Day 7 - The Kingdom of the Zulus
Visit the Swazi Candle Factory. Continue to Zululand. Arrive at St Lucia, home to hippo, crocodile and 367 bird species. Protea Hotel St Lucia or similar. Optional open vehicle game drive. (B)

Day 8 - Durban
This morning enjoy a cruise on Lake St Lucia before departing for Durban. Check into the Protea Hotel Edward or similar just before lunch (own account). Explore the beachfront and its many attractions at leisure, or take an optional afternoon Durban city tour. (B)

Day 9 - Port Elizabeth/Knysna
Take a morning flight to Port Elizabeth. Travel through the Tsitsikamma Forest. Arrive at Knysna, in the heart of the Garden Route. Overnight at the Knysna Log Inn or similar. (BD)

Day 10 - Knysna
Cruise on the Knysna Lagoon and visit the Featherbed Nature Reserve. After lunch, the remainder of the day is at leisure to enjoy the town. Knysna Log-Inn or similar. (BL)

Day 11 - Cango Caves & Oudtshoorn
Enjoy a wonderful morning of views of the spectacular Outeniqua Pass en route to Oudtshoorn – the centre of South Africa’s ostrich industry. After lunch tour an ostrich farm, then head to the Cango Caves, one of South Africa incredible natural wonders. Overnight at the Queens Hotel or similar. (BL)

Day 12 - Cape Town
Travel to historic Hermanus, where Southern Right whales can be spotted from the shore (Jul-Nov, whale season). Transfer to the airport for your overnight South African Airways flight to London or extend your stay in Cape Town with 3 nights at the Protea Hotel President (see our Worldwide Collection brochure).
