Day 1 - Heathrow to Colombo
Overnight flight either direct or via Mumbai on Jet Airways.
Day 2 - Colombo Area
Upon arrival transfer to your hotel. Rest of the day at leisure.
Overnight accommodation - Ramada Colombo Hotel
Day 3 - Colombo to Sigiriya
Explore the impressive Buddhist caves at Dambulla rock temple, a World Heritage Site dating back to the 1st century B.C. This complex contains five caves with over 150 images of Buddha. Later continue to Sigiriya.

Day 4 - Habarana & Polonnaruwa
Enjoy a short yet fun elephant back ride through the forest at Habarana, either this morning or this evening. This afternoon see the remarkable ruins, statues and monuments in the island's medieval capital. Polonnaruwa was built in the 11th and 12th centuries AD and is now a World Heritage Site.

Day 5 - Sigiriya
This morning climb the 5th century Sigiriya Rock Fortress, a beautiful World Heritage Site. Known as the 'Lion Rock', rising 200 metres from the jungle, it has a moat, rampart, and extensive gardens ringing the base whist steps, clinging to the side of the rock, lead to the ruins of the citadel. Later, relax and enjoy the resort facilities.

Day 6 - Sigiriya to Kandy
Enjoy a fascinating visit to a spice garden to see the different spices for which Sri lanka is famous. Later arrive in Kandy, a World Heritage Site, with bazaar, arts & crafts centre and gem museum. Visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic and witness a cultural show this evening.

Day 7 - Pinnawela & Peradeniya
This morning enjoy a visit to the famous Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage, where you may see the elephants bathing in the river. Later admire acres of trees, plants & flowers at Peradeniya's botanical gardens. Take the short journey back to Kandy and return to your hotel.

Day 8 - Kandy to Nuwara Eliya
Journey into verdant hill country, visiting a tea plantation and tea factory to learn about the process for manufacturing tea and taste a cup of Ceylon's finest. The afternoon is at leisure in Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka's most popular hill resort with an invigorating mountain climate and beautiful scenery.

Day 9 - Nuwara Eliya to Beach Hotel or Airport
Travel past St. Claire's, Devon and Aberdeen waterfalls, the lush Kelani River area (where the Oscar-winning Bridge on the River Kwai was filmed) and many small towns en route to the coast. Transfer to the airport this evening for your onward flight or extend your holiday at your chosen beach resort. (B)
