Jambo! Kenya – a holiday destination waiting to be explored
It's easy to see why so many holidaymakers return to this beautiful country. Lush green forests, wide open plains, idyllic white sandy beaches and home to some of the best wildlife on Earth, Kenya truly is a place for everyone. Book a holiday to Kenya with Hayes & Jarvis and experience more.
Beautiful scenery
Kenya's national parks and reserves range from beautiful green forests in the South East to the great plains of the Maasai Mara. Kenya even holds host to Africa's second highest mountain, Mount Kenya, all with wonderful wildlife, ready to spot. With a backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro, Tsavo West also offers safaris through the lush green hills of South East Kenya as an alternative for those who have already visited the Mara. Make sure you look at all the national parks before booking to see which best suits you or why not combine a couple to get the most of your time here.
Incredible wildlife
Kenya is renowned for its abundant wildlife and is one of the few places in the world that you can see all of the 'big 5' in one place. For the best chance to see them all, the wide open Maasai Mara offers accommodation from luxury lodges to budget camps with local Maasai guides on hand to offer information and endless knowledge. Nakuru, or ‘place of the waterbuck', is something of an exclusive area for water dwellers. Flamingos and rhinos are regular visitors, not to mention the rest of the gang. Buffalo, zebra and the very rare Rothschild giraffe all spend time here. Fewer crowds gather at Samburu National Park and leopards, giraffes and the giraffe's closest relative the gerenuk can all be found here. Be sure to catch the very unusually tinted elephants that enjoy a role in the red earth but one thing is for sure, memory cards can run out very quickly on safari.
Kenya's Adventurous side
If it is adventure you are after, Kenya has a whole host of activities aimed at the bold and the brave. From mountain bike safaris and white water rafting to kite surfing and scuba diving, so much is on offer for those who like to get involved and active while on holiday. All of the hotels and lodges can help arrange day trips and excursions during your trip and can make your holiday that extra bit wilder. You'll be sure to go back with a story or two.
Romance
Many couples make Kenya their honeymoon destination with beautiful white sandy beaches, turquoise Indian Ocean waters and luxury safari lodges. There's really nothing more exclusive than enjoying five-star luxury accommodation on the banks of the Mara River where the only interruptions are the calls of the wild. Weddings are also a wonderful celebration to enjoy in Kenya, offering barefoot ceremonies on any of the country's gorgeous beaches or with a stunning backdrop across to Mount Kenya.
Culture
It's not just the animals and scenery that people come to Kenya for, though. The country is often referred to as one of the friendliest places on Earth. Locals are more than happy to talk to you about their lives and the country is rich in culture. With archaeological sites dating back to the stone ages and Maasai tribes ready to tell you their stories, there is so much to learn. Many safari guides are from local Maasai communities and having slept alone in the wild to protect their cattle, they certainly know how to spot the wildlife. Their stories are inspiring and add that extra magical touch to your experience of this wonderful country.
Beach holidays
Of course, no visit to Kenya is complete without a stay on one of the country's tropical beaches. Luxury hotels and resorts dotted along the coast are ready to pamper and delight, offering spas, pools, children's clubs, watersport activities and much more. Simply relaxing by the pool in the glorious sunshine is what matters most to many people but staff are on hand to offer scuba diving lessons, Swahili lessons and daily activity programmes for those who want to get a bit more involved. After a hard day by the pool, evenings bring gourmet dining and local African entertainment before falling asleep to the waves of the Indian Ocean, crashing against the beach in the background.
In the forest
Back on dry land the coastal rainforests which border the beaches provide shelter for baboons, Colobus monkeys and leopards. Used to co-habiting you may not need to wait long until a monkey makes itself known to you, they're not shy. The Shimba National Reserve is not far from Mombasa, the perfect location for a day trip. Featuring Kenya's only population of Sable Antelope and over 700 elephants roving in the park, visitors can experience all that Kenya's famous wildlife has to offer.
