Canada celebrates its 150th birthday in 2017 with the festivities kicking off on 31 December 2016 and running throughout the whole of next year. From music festivals to sports events, and even free entry to all the National Parks happening all year, now’s the perfect time to plan a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Canada. Here’s where you can join in the celebrations:

Ottawa

Canada’s capital is holding the biggest party, with celebrations starting on New Year’s Eve with live music and a dazzling firework display over Parliament Hill. Later in the year, you can enjoy the Red Bull Ice Cross Downhill World Championship that takes place on the Rideau Canal, as well as the JUNO Awards that celebrates Canadian music and hosted by superstar Michael Bublé.

Charlottetown

As the ‘birthplace’ of the Confederation, a trip to Charlottetown during the anniversary year should not be missed. Nestled on Prince Edward Island, you can enjoy an epic ten-hour live concert, a regatta and waterfront festival to celebrate.

Montreal

Not only will Montreal be celebrating the 150th birthday, but the city is also enjoying turning 375 years old in the same year. So it’s perhaps no surprise that the celebrations will be huge; from illumination shows and the famous Igloofest music festival to special theatre performances.

Vancouver

If you’re visiting Vancouver in 2017, be sure to enjoy the special events taking place for the 150th year, including a huge 11-day festival that will celebrate the First Nations culture and heritage. It’s the perfect way to learn more about Canada’s past while soaking up the city sights.

Toronto

If you’re a music fan, a trip to Toronto is sure to please. For the anniversary, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra will be composing a range of new pieces in collaboration with past and present musicians and composers to be delivered through 45 concerts; a rousing way to celebrate this landmark birthday.
