Conveniently located on the white sands of Oistin Bay, with access to two breathtaking beaches, Butterfly Beach Hotel has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere which makes it ideal to experience the best that a south coast holiday in Barbados can offer. The swimming pool is surrounded by a wide sun terrace and there's a beach bar and restaurant, so you don't have to go far for refreshments. The hotel has a range of accommodation to suit couples and families, some with ocean views. The little village of Oistins has some local nightlife and the ever-popular Friday 'fish fry'. Lively St Lawrence Gap is only a short drive or bus ride away.

Our first visit to Barbados, stayed March 30th to13th April in an west facing superior island view studio, situated on the ground floor in a narrow garden consisting of a lawn area with beautiful hibiscus hedging, ...
Read More palm trees etc. facing a white washed villa adjacent to the hotel. Step off the patio area (thankfully shady in the morning, flooded with sun from around 2 - 5.30 pm.) and, from the lawn, you have a side view of the pool and the sea. I loved breakfasting on the patio watching a myriad variety of birds, especially the hummingbirds, butterflies and in the evening, varieties of bats plus fireflies. In rooom 105 situated closer to the pool - the higher numbers backed onto the car park closer to the road - sleep was not disturbed by traffic noise - possibly due to an indulgence of Banks and rum punch- but could of course be heard on the patio, which was not a problem as the sound birds, surf and at night, whistling frogs prevailed LOL. The room was of good size, plenty of wardrobe, drawer space, large shower, small kitchen area, with fridge, sink, four ring electric hob possibly improved by the addition of a microwave, was kept spotlessly clean by housekeeping, clean linen and fluffy white towels replaced frequentlyl; huge comfy beds and plenty of patio furniture , we could not find fault. Everyone from owners, management , housekeeping, security and gardeners etc. were exceptionally helpful and fiendly. Reception staff, Kerry and Donna in the shop a mine of information and go out of their way to be helpful. It would appear some of the staff in the Reef bar/restaurant could benefit from further staff/ customer relations training, though Donna, Lynette, Yvette and especially Joshua were superb. Food was of a good standard, though our first dining experience was marred by a delay of 45 min before being informed our meal would be served late as they were serving a party of school children first; had we been inforned of this at the time of booking a table, we could have had the option of either booking a later time or dining earlier elsewhere; this did not go down too well especially after a long flight. We really enjoyed the bbq night with Eric on the steel pans. This great budget hotel delivers on both value for money and location close to Oistins, Miami (Enterprise) beach all within walking distance, the Gap, Rockley (Accra) beach - where the boardwalk starts - and Hastings a short $2 BDS ZR ride away, which is great fun; just tell the driver/money collector where you want to go and they drop you in the right spot almost door to door. Blue or yellow busses also charge $2 BDS per journey and will get you round the island from the stop near the hotel, just ask reception for details some journeys eg. Harrisons Cave, Hunts Gardens require a ZR to Bridgetown to connect. Barbados is as expensive or inexpensive as you choose to make it, with lots of dining options, at the bank in Oistins we got an average exchange rate of $3.26 BDS to £1 sterling ($2BDS to1 $US), shop prices often quoted in $US so $10 US = $20 BDS and to roughly convert to sterling ÷ by 3. Dining I can recommend Harlequins at the Gap, Oistins fish fry -order a bottle of rum, mixers and you are given a bucket of ice - cheaper than individual drinks - the Chinese opposite the hotel and to the left of this Charlies Bar does a great meal, open 5pm closed Mondays; the local for ex pats who make u feel really welcome, say hello to Dennis, Jack, Marc, Charlie himself and Trisha on bar duty; fantastic people. Thanks to fellow guests, Virginians Charlie and Cindy , David and Maggie from Leicester, Florida Bob and Canadians Dave and Natalie for some brilliant nights out.

Read More very friendly staff. Food was pretty good, and a good selection of drinks. Deborah in the shop is a scream, and very helpful.I used her to arrange a couple of trips out, the one that you must do if you go is the 5 hour trip on the Jammin Catamaran, if you like loud reggae music, in a great boat, swimming with turtles and a free bar all day plus fantastic crew then this is a must for you. I do have a couple of concerns, firstly, if you run a tab at the ReefGrill - check it before signing as on a number of occasions I would have been overcharged, one evening I had allegedly had 4 bottles of wine with dinner, where I actually only had 2! Also at the bar, whilst all of the staff were a real credit, and very friendly they are not the quickest at serving, quite often I would be stood there waiting whilst 2 or 3 staff are stood there talking to each other and finishing their conversation before casually sauntering over to serve someone. I appreciate it is a slower pace then here in the UK, but there was a lot of Brits there. Lastly I noticed that the general manager generally replies to comments on the website, however apart from making an appearance for 1/2 hour or so one evening I didn't see him, I would have thought that in the hospitality industry a manager should be walking around several times a day ensuring his / her guests are happy, shouldn't they? I know this all sounds a bit picky, but all very simple to rectify in which case it would have been a 5* review. The best bit of the holiday for me was as I said the people, not just the hotel staff but everyone everywhere, what a wonderful happy lot the Bajans are.

What a lovely friendly place to stay! Very personal unlike the bigger All Inclusive hotels.
The room was spacious with lovely white wicker furniture. The bathroom however, although everything worked fine was in need of a little ...
Read More updating. This didn't however in any way spoil our holiday! The rooms were cleaned daily with fresh towels & linen on a regular basis. Every where was spotlessly clean. The pool area, spa tubs and gardens very well kept. Breakfast was lovely overlooking the sea. This, apart from the day we left was the only meal we had at the Butterfly and was lovely...always hot. We like to eat out on holiday & there are plenty of lovely restaurants to try. If you don't mind walking, you can walk to Dover beach leading on to the GAP in 25 minutes, other than that, take the ZR vans (they haven't changed since last came to Barbados 18years ago!)- loads of fun, but if you like lots of room, keep to the Taxi!!. Back to the hotel...Jefferson, what a lovely Guy & very helpful!! Jefferson recommended George's place at the Friday night fish fry in Oistins and he was right to!! It was fab, huge portions and really tasty( unlike some I've heard of from friends who went to Barbados not so long ago). Love to mention a couple of the Ladies too Yvette, Karen & Donna.........always smiling & friendly! Last but not least, Lovely Lady who ran the hotel and been there over 18 years ( sorry...forgot your name...maybe it's the jetlag still!!) We had a fab time, thank you for your hospitality!!

Read More which had everything we required for our needs but it would have been even better with a microwave, the room was cleaned every day if it needed it or not, the bed was really comfortable, a good sleep every night, but this was only due to me taking ear plugs! the tree frogs and the sea against the rocks don't help a light sleeper! The hotel is in a great location only 10 to 15 mins walk to the supermarket and Oistins centre with the Fish Fry, and another 5mins to Miami Beach a great location. All the staff make very welcome and add to the pleasure of your stay. Will we return? YES, this is a great hotel within our budget.
