Founded back in the 17th century, Betty’s Hope was one of Antigua’s first sugar plantations.Nowadays, most of the site is in ruins, although it’s gradually being excavated however the stables of the Great House have been turned into a fantastic museum and the estate’s twin windmills are still standing. The whole place is an interesting window into Antigua’s history – sugar production was once big business for the island and even now you will be able to see more than 100 of the old cane-crushing windmills scattered across the countryside.
