About Hong Kong
Hong Kong has towering skyscrapers and an unparalleled neon skyline. Its colonial past and overwhelming Western influence is overridden by an essence that's purely Chinese. With superb shopping, thousands of restaurants and surprisingly beautiful beaches on its many outlying islands, this metropolis has a speed and energy like no other. In the world's most densely populated city, seven million people can't be wrong about Hong Kong.
Our Travellers Guide
Beaches
There are a few urban beaches on Hong Kong Island's south side including Deep Water Bay and Repulse Bay. The best ones are on Lantau Island's southern coast, namely Pui O Beach and Cheung Sha Upper Beach. If you're looking for culture and beautiful beaches from a holiday location - look no further than Hong Kong.
Sports
Hong Kong's New Territories provide scenic surroundings for cyclists, walkers and hikers, especially along the Sai Kung Peninsula. On the east coast, there are perfect conditions for windsurfing and sailing. Golf is a popular pastime for the wealthy with hotels to match.
Local tastes
With more than 9,000 restaurants, Hong Kong’s fusion of cuisine lures people from across the globe. The classic dining experience is Dim Sum, intricate canapés of steamed shrimp dumplings, barbecued pork buns and deep-fried spring rolls.
Evening flavour
Hong Kong by night is exactly how you pictured it; restaurants, pubs, karaoke bars and Western and Chinese nightclubs light up the city. Starlit dinner cruises and bustling night markets offer an exciting alternative.
Best buys
The Chinese love affair with gadgets is seen in shops throughout the city. Intricately decorated handicrafts and antiques, custom-made silk clothing, Chinese tea, gold jewellery and precious gems are must-have souvenirs.
Live the Experience
No trip to Hong Kong would be complete without a trip to the top of Victoria Peak to admire dizzying views of Victoria Harbour and Kowloon. Discover the gigantic bronze Buddha on Lantau Island, the waterfront restaurants of Lamma Island or visit the fascinating museums and monasteries of the New Territories.
